Electric mopeds are probably the future of urban transportation, or at least, that’s what it looks like. For years we have seen a steady rise in the sales of electric mopeds, and it’s not hard to see why. In this article, we will be exploring the best electric mopeds.
There have been increasing restrictions on the use of private cars in city centers - areas of the UK like London and Oxford have started charging petrol and diesel cars to enter, so alternative solutions are needing to be found. For some, this might look like a new electric car or cycling, but others are taking a more stylish approach.
Mopeds have been popular for years, and now with electric options and the ability to get around sustainably, more and more people are jumping into the saddle of an electric moped.
If you’re looking to join them, then you might be interested in finding the best possible value for your money. So, with that in mind, here are our picks for the best electric mopeds on the market at the moment.
OUR TOP PICK
First on our list of best electric mopeds is one from Silence S01.
Silence S01 is everything you imagine when you think of an electric moped. Stylish and practical, this Spanish scooter is going to get you where you’re going and then some. The Silence S01 features three distinct riding modes: Eco, Sport, and City. These different styles maximize your range and let you get the most of out your model.
For example, Eco mode will take you up to 43mph with the longest range/distance you’ll be able to go. Then City boosts that speed up to 52mph, and the Sport mode can even get you up to 62mph, but obviously, with increased speed, you’ll see a decrease in how far you can go on one battery.
This model also comes with a quick-release lift-out battery that can be recharged at any 240V supply. With all this and other special features, and a surprisingly low price point, it’s not hard to see why this scooter can often be seen in “best electric moped” lists.
Pros
- Multiple modes to maximize your ride
- Stylish
- Quick-release battery
Cons
- Nothing all that special about the scooter
EDITORS CHOICE
When you think about mopeds, I bet the first name that comes to mind is Vespa, which is why we have put it on our list of best electric mopeds. They are manufacturing legends and managed to command the headlines back in 2016 when they unveiled their first full eclectic scooter, dubbed the Elettrica. This is a premium scooter that has the classic Vespa silhouette, but with a stylish, futuristic chrome finish.
This Vespa can cover up to 60 miles on one charge, although this model only has a 50cc engine, so you’re unlikely to get past 30mph. However, if you’re using this for urban transport or getting around cities, then you’re not going to need to go any faster than that anyway.
Not only does this model have a great appearance, but it also comes with a TFT screen also allows you to connect your smartphone and control your music. These features do come at a cost, but for the quality of the build and the style, you’re really getting your money’s worth.
Pros
- Premium brand assurance
- Stylish appearance
- High-Tech features
Cons
- Particularly high price point
BEST VALUE
Next on our list of best electric mopeds is one from Super Soco. This model of moped is actually styled to look like a motorcycle, which has a distinct kind of curb appeal. The TC is a well-built, sturdy machine that is available to 16-year-olds upon completion of a CBT and also to AM category license holders.
That said, unfortunately, the Super Soco TC only has a 40-mile range, and is limited to under 30mph, which means that if you were hoping to cruise along a highway on this model you’d be out of luck, however, if you’re just needing the vehicle to get from point A to point B, then you can’t go wrong.
The Super Soco TC also includes some fab features such as keyless ignition, and a digital display - something that is pretty standard among most electric mopeds. All of this is topped off with a proven 1.5kw Bosch motor. The battery can charge in about 4 hours from empty, which is great if you find yourself running somewhat short of time.
Pros
- Cool motorcycle appearance
- High-tech features
- Decent price point
Cons
- Low range and speed limit

Now, this is a company that very few will know about, however, there’s a lot of good to be discovered with the Rieju Nuuk Tracker which is why we consider it one of the best electric mopeds. There are two models available: standard and cargo - as might be expected, cargo gives you more storage space you can bring more things with you, or use it for deliveries like take-out, which is where a lot of the market for mopeds come from.
The Rieju Nuuk Tracker boasts a 10.5kw Bosh motor - much stronger than the Super Soco TC and an impressive 2.4Wh battery the Nuuk Tracker can actually get above 60mph and can cover a range of 50miles, which, compared to the other entries on this list, is particularly impressive.
The standard charge time takes about 5 hours, however, if you are willing or able to pay a little extra when you purchase the vehicle, then you can get fast charging and have a full battery in a little over an hour.
As is standard with other mopeds the Rieju Nuuk features a large digital dashboard, phone app, and four rider modes to suit your transportation needs. It’s definitely one of the more expensive options, but with the super impressive engine and battery, we don’t find it all that surprising at all.
Pros
- Vastly superior engine
- Impressive battery life
- Fast charge (and the option for a super-fast charge)
Cons
- High price point

Now for a runner up option on our list of best electric mopeds. This motorcycle-style moped is one of the best options on the market right now, but its super high price point does make it difficult to recommend to the majority of people.
The C-Evolution is a maxi-scooter - which basically means a really big moped. At this point, it’s practically a motorbike. This does however mean that it basically leads the way in terms of performance and speed.
The BMW C-Evolution features a whacking 35Kw motor meaning that it is capable of reaching speeds of up to 74mph, and impressive batteries that can reach up to 100miles in range. There’s no arguing against the stats!
What you can argue with is the price, however. With a starting price of nearly $19K, it is definitely not the kind of option that just anyone will be able to afford to spend on a moped, and for that reason, we don’t feel as though we can recommend it as a choice for that many people.
However, if you do happen to have the budget for this sort of price then you seriously can’t do better than a machine like the BMW C-Evolution.
Pros
- Incredibly powerful motor
- High top-speeds
- Impressive curb appeal
Cons
- Super expensive

Moving on from the beastly BMW C-Evolution to something a lot more traditional on our list of best electric mopeds. As one of the pioneers of European electric scooters, Artisan is a much more affordable option that even offers a tilting three-wheel moped that’s aimed at fast-food delivery drivers.
The Artisan is styled very similarly to a Vespa but without the Vespa price tag, so if that’s the kind of look that you’re wanting, then you’ll feel right at home with this model. That said, there are definitely some differences.
For example, the bodywork is all plastic, rather than metal like in a genuine Vespa, and that’s definitely a lot more chrome. However, with a wide range of colors to choose from, for the bodywork and the seat, you’ll be sure to find something that looks like your dream vehicle.
Because the Artisan is a moped-class scooter, it’s limited to 28mph, so again is going to feel very slow and vulnerable on busy roads but if you’re just in a city center you should be totally fine.
Though the claimed range is just 25 miles, the good news is that the battery can easily lift out to be charged indoors, and there are also slots for extra battery - though these do cost an extra $500.
There are a lot of different styles and models available from Artisan, which is great if you want to shop around a bit.
Pros
- Great price
- Vintage style
- Decent battery life
Cons
- Short warranty (12 months compared to the typical 3 years)
- Lower-quality build
RUNNER UP
This option is probably the most budget-friendly of all the other mopeds, coming in at under $2k. And although that might set off alarm bells about the build quality, we find that actually, this scooter is pretty great value for money which is why we have put it on our list of best electric mopeds.
The Lifan E3 includes an EBS braking system, storage under the seat, and a USB port for charging a phone or for navigation tech. Housed within is a 1.5kw motor that will be able to get you where you’re going, meaning that Lifan offers you a cheap way of commuting around your town or city center.
As to be expected when you lower the price to that of the Lifan E3, you do have to put up with a significantly longer charge time than with other models, however, it’s still only 6 hours to charge from empty. The top speed is about 30mph, whilst the range is a pretty impressive 45 miles.
Considering what you get for the price, the Lifan E3 has definitely earned its place on this list.
Pros
- Great price
- Good amount of storage
Cons
- Nothing super special

You basically know when dealing with a known brand like Peugeot that you’re going to get high quality which is why this is considered one of the best electric mopeds. Not only are Peugeot a known name with cars, but have been producing scooters like this for over 15 years, so it’s pretty certain that you know what they’re doing.
The Ludix is one of their best-selling products, having sold over 250,000 units, so it’s definitely a vehicle with a lot of history and reworking involved to come to the best possible product.
This specific model includes a Bosch Motor and battery, so you know that the internal equipment used here is of the best quality. You get a 2.5Kww motor, and a 1.6wh battery, which together gives you a top speed of 28mph (standard of mopeds) and a range of about 30 miles.
As for charge time, it should take about 4 hours to charge from empty to full, which is pretty decent considering. However, if you’re worried about how much time it takes, or you’re worried about your battery running out, you can always pick up a spare.
Pros
- Solid, high-quality build
- Long history of quality
- Fast-charging battery
Cons
- High Price Point

Topping a lot of different “best moped” lists is the NIU NQiGTS Pro, a classically styled little scooter that is going to have you zipping around your city center with comfort and style. With a fantastic range of up to 60 miles and a motor that will get you up to 45mph (meaning that this is a scooter, not a moped, technically).
The NIU offers great performance and range, so you know that it has that extra capability if you’re ever in need of it.
As well as the great range and speed, the NGiGTS comes packed full of other great features, such as a full-color dashboard, app connectivity, a USB port, anti-theft system, cruise control, and GPS tracking system. All of these features aren’t bad at all considering the price tag.
The black style makes the scooter look sleek and stylish, pair it with a black helmet and you’ll feel like you’re in Paris no matter where you’re scooting around.
Pro
- Superfast charging time (3.5 hours)
- Superior top speed and range
- Great value for money
Cons
- Only available in black, and not the cute pastels you might expect with a Vespa

We move on from what couple possibly be the overall best scooter out there, to the best vintage scooter. If you think that the Vespa is the most classic and nostalgic scooter out there, then feast your eyes on the Cezeta.
Now, I’ll admit, it might not be everyone’s first choice, but if you’re someone who is really big on retro, whilst still wanting to be environmentally friendly, then look no further than this dinky little model.
Although it looks little, it can actually give you up to 87 miles of range and a top speed of 56mph, which is way above what most of the models on the rest of this list can offer. This is because the Cezeta uses the Kinetic Energy Recovery System of the regenerative braking system in which energy from braking is returned to the battery, meaning it can get you further, faster.
However, all this modern power in such a retro body will set you back a hefty amount.
Pros
- Incredible power
- Great top speed
- Fantastically vintage look
Cons
- High price point

According to Zapp, this scooter is the only carbon fiber scooter on the market, and the first two-wheeled vehicle to use the sort of technology in their bodywork that you would more typically find in something like an Aston Martin Valkyrie. This suggests to me that this vehicle packs a lot of punch.
It has a permanent magnet motor, which gives it a super high torque, and the addition of removable batteries that can be charged just about anywhere mean that you don’t need to spend any extra time trying to find a charge point.
This scooter features several different modes to suit your everyday needs, and whilst in ECO mode, you’ll be able to get up to 56 miles on a single charge.
Pros
- Great appearance
- Super high-quality build
Cons
- Not high tech elements
Final Thoughts

Whether you want a moped-grade scooter that will have you nipping around towns and city centers in style or a more suped-up kind of thing that can get you on busier roads, there will always be a scooter that suits you and your needs.
